The Combat Medical Badge was created in January 1945, retroactive to December 6, 1941, for medics who personally came under enemy fire while treating the wounded. During Vietnam, the requirements were so strict that medics had to document the exact 6-digit coordinates, time, and intensity of the combat they came under. The Master tier itself is brand new — the Army only introduced it in mid-2025.
