The Combat Medical Badge was approved January 29, 1945, formally established that March 1, and made retroactive to December 7, 1941, for medics who personally came under enemy fire while treating the wounded. During Vietnam, the requirements were so strict that medics had to document the exact 6-digit coordinates, time, and intensity of the combat they came under. The Master tier itself is brand new — the Army only introduced it in mid-2025.
