"Sky Soldiers" — the 173rd Airborne Brigade was the first major U.S. Army combat unit sent to Vietnam, arriving in May 1965. Over six years there, the brigade earned more than 6,000 Purple Hearts, fighting some of the war's fiercest battles including Dak To and Operation Junction City — site of the only combat parachute jump of the entire war.
