Nicknamed the "Bastogne Bulldogs," the 327th Infantry Regiment arrived in Normandy by glider, not parachute, then held half the perimeter during the siege of Bastogne in December 1944 — the same siege where General McAuliffe gave his famous one-word reply to a German surrender demand: "Nuts!" The regiment remains part of the 101st Airborne Division today.
