The badge combines elements from three different Navy insignias into one design: the ship and bow wave from Surface Warfare, an ordnance disposal bomb over crossed lightning bolts from EOD, and a Mark V diving helmet over crossed tridents from diving. In December 2007, the Navy officially redesignated this role as EOD Officer specifically, since the job had become "EOD-centric" over time.
