Originally known as the "Victory Brigade" when formed in 1991, the unit was redesignated the 171st Infantry Brigade in 2007, taking on a lineage tracing back to 1917 with real WWI and WWII service. At its peak as Fort Jackson's training command, the 171st was responsible for training 58% of the entire Army's new soldiers before its 2016 inactivation.
