Stationed in Panama, the 193rd Infantry Brigade commanded battalions of the 187th Infantry — the same Rakkasans lineage — starting in 1983. As tensions with Manuel Noriega's regime escalated in the late 1980s, the brigade's soldiers faced increasing harassment and restricted movement in the lead-up to the 1989 U.S. invasion of Panama.
