Combines three qualifications earned in very different ways: the Combat Infantry Badge, created in 1943 to recognize infantrymen who personally fought in ground combat; Airborne wings, designed in 1941 by Captain William Yarborough after his first sketch was rejected for looking too much like pilot's wings; and the Air Assault badge, nicknamed "The Ten Toughest Days in the Army," whose first badges were hand-made from spare dental fillings when the school graduated its first class in 1974.
