Nicknamed the "Texas Division," "Arrowhead," and "T-Patchers" — the arrowhead honors the unit's Oklahoma National Guard origins, the "T" for Texas — the 36th Infantry Division was the first American combat division to land on continental Europe in WWII, at Salerno, Italy in September 1943. It went on to accept the surrender of Field Marshal Hermann Göring and produced 14 Medal of Honor recipients.
