Nicknamed "Cross of Lorraine," a name earned for its WWI defense of France at Meuse-Argonne, the 79th Infantry Division later fought through Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, and the Ardennes-Alsace in WWII. Today the 79th has been reorganized as an Army Reserve sustainment command rather than a deployable infantry unit.
