Nicknamed the "Providers," motto "Supporting Freedom" — the brigade traces to the 82nd Support Group, constituted at Fort Bragg in 1957 from units whose histories with the 82nd Airborne run back to both World Wars. It deployed to the Dominican Republic in 1965, supported search and rescue after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and spent 15 months in southern Iraq after becoming a sustainment brigade in 2006. On 21 May 2015 the brigade realigned under the 82nd Airborne Division: on Sicily Drop Zone, in front of 5,000 paratroopers, its soldiers traded their old shoulder patches for the double A and airborne tab.
