The 86th Infantry Regiment activated at Camp Hale, Colorado in 1942–43, assigned to the 10th Mountain Division and redesignated the 86th Mountain Infantry in late 1944. Paired here with the Combat Action Badge, created in 2005 to give non-infantry soldiers an official combat badge after decades of unofficial homemade versions.
