Air Combat Command was created on 1 June 1992, when Tactical Air Command and Strategic Air Command were both inactivated and their fighters and bombers were brought under a single command for the first time. Its lineage reaches back through TAC to 21 March 1946. Headquartered at Langley, now Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, ACC is the primary provider of combat air forces, organizing, training and equipping airmen to control and exploit the air, cyberspace and the electromagnetic spectrum.
The patch is TAC's. The Air Force normally forbids one organization reusing another's emblem and waived that rule for ACC, so the shield has outlived the command it was approved for: blue and red, split by a cloud-edged line, with a white winged sword at the center, red hilt and yellow wings.
