The Expert Infantry Badge was created alongside the CIB on October 27, 1943, testing tactical and technical infantry skills under field conditions rather than actual combat — and pays less too, $5 a month versus the CIB's $10. Paired here with Airborne wings, designed in 1941 by Captain William Yarborough after his first sketch was rejected for looking too much like pilot's wings.
