Before settling on the crossed Harpers Ferry pistols in 1922, the Army tried crossed billy clubs for the MP insignia — but at saluting distance they were indistinguishable from the Artillery's crossed cannons. A medieval mace didn't work either. Captain George Chandler finally proposed the M1805 pistols, first made at the Harpers Ferry Armory and famously carried by Andrew Jackson. Order two for a mirrored pair, facing opposite directions on each side of a vehicle.
