The yellow-and-black patch isn't arbitrary: yellow was the Army's traditional cavalry color, and the black diagonal stripe represents iron — marking the division's shift from horseback to tanks. Activated in 1921 as a horse-mounted unit at Fort Bliss, the 1st Cav became the Army's first "airmobile" division in Vietnam, pioneering helicopter warfare at the Battle of Ia Drang. A century of history, one patch.
